3 – 5 June – EMERGEANDSEE

media arts festival | 3-5 June, Bötzow-Brauerei Berlin

The EMERGEANDSEE Media Arts Festival 2011 opens the big stage for the small details: In Films, lectures and an exhibition, people can express themselves by contributing their detail to the EMERGEANDSEE-microcosm.

The exhibition and artistic pieces will put our world together anew. This includes acoustic as well as visual compositions that toy around with details. No boundaries should restrict the artistic medium: performances, sound productions for the “audio-cinema”, visual artistic works, video installations, cross-medial works, etc. all contribute to a limitless outcome.

Within the lectures, thinkers and makers from diverse areas (social & cultural sciences, media and art, etc.) will gather. Here, we are looking for new theories and ideas presented via short lectures. This concerns people from a position in the academic world and others that have no professional stance regarding media – all are welcome.

Within the short film competition, innovative feature films, animations, documentaries and experimental worlds of images from around the globe will explore the topic of the detail in the eye of the jury and the audience.

Medienfassaden Festival 2010

| 16.08.2010

http://www.mediafacades.eu/program

The MEDIA FACADES FESTIVAL EUROPE 2010 is initiated by Public Art Lab / Berlin in cooperation with iMAL / Brussels, m-cult / Helsinki, FACT / Liverpool, Ars Electronica Futurelab / Linz, Medialab-Prado / Madrid, Kitchen Budapest.

MEDIA FACADES FESTIVAL EUROPE 2010 will explore the networked possibilities of urban screens and media facades via internet and new technologies on a European level.

The format of the MEDIA FACADES FESTIVAL reflects on the increasing presence of massive-infrastructures with digital visual elements in public spaces while investigating their communicative function in the urban environment.

The festival will show especially developed art projects in Europe-wide Joint Broadcasting Events which aspire to share dreams of the different cities and report about local issues and exchange peoples’ stories and ideas. The media facades will be transformed into local stages and open a global window for cultural and societal processes to create a dialogue and connect the local public virtually with the other places throughout Europe.

Its long-term vision is to be a catalyst for the creation of a sustainable and transportable structure where artists, cultural professionals, arts organizations, cultural institutions, governmental bodies, private and commercial businesses, media and the general public, within Europe and beyond, can interact through the development of a new cultural communication format in the public space.

VisualBerlin Festival – June 10-12

VisualBerlin Festival – AViT 2010 – June 10-12

Licht An!

Berlin’s original Videokunst Club, VisualBerlin reflects the richness of the city itself. With members from nine countries we are a diverse family bound together by a shared commitment to the progression of audiovisual art forms, performance and technology. Our artists have rocked festivals and parties across the globe and in 2010 it’s our turn to return the favor. From June 10-12 we will host the VisualBerlin Festival, a community driven event focusing on live performance, VJing and experimental media. The festival is an excellent opportunity to connect with an engaged audience of public and peers. Share with us your passion, your creativity, your experiments and your fun. Wir freuen uns!

Background

Founded in 2005, VisualBerlin is a non-profit community platform, providing support and a social structure for participating artists. Our interests and expertise covers everything from underground party visuals to hardware-hacking, programmatic arts, experimental performance and media philosophy. Community is at the forefront of everything we do. Since 2003 members of our group have hosted events in collaboration with AViT, the international support network for VJ arts and practitioners. In 2006 the newly-formed VisualBerlin celebrated it’s first official AViT network event and in 2010 we are pleased to continue the tradition of AViT in Berlin with the VisualBerlin Festival. The common ideals of VisualBerlin and AViT ensures that the participating artists and surrounding community is the most important aspect of each of our events.

Location

In 2010 the Festival once again takes place in conjunction with Berlin’s international design festival DMY. Over three days, guest VJs, performers and developers will have the opportunity to present their work in Berlin’s most unique locations. These headquarters will act as a hub and meeting point for all artists with free wifi, event information, technical support and a daily breakfast club for participants.
The night program takes place in external clubs, transformed by the VisualBerlin team to offer you the best setting for your performance.

Program

The festival will be a mix of curated programming and open-exchange. Innovative projects and developments will be presented daily across a schedule of workshops, performances and discussions. Additional jam sessions will take place in the lounge area giving you the opportunity to test out new collaborations, experiment and exchange ideas on the big screen.

The night program is split into three events:

Night 1, Dubstep party
Night 2, Chiptunes + AudioVisual Performances
Night 3, Classic VJ/ Closing Party.

The night slots will be curated but we welcome last-minute collaborations between artists, and look forward to closing each night with you in an open jam session :)

How To Participate

We will be collecting submissions for the following:

  • Workshops/Seminars
  • VJ sets
  • AudioVisual Performances

We are also planning facade mappings, so please let us know if your work is appropriate for these and you would like to stay informed.

B-Seite 2010

| 12.11.2009
The owners of a record player will easily relate to the concept of the Festival for Visual Arts and Contemporary Culture: sometimes it’s the unimposing ‘B’ that is hiding the true gem of a vinyl record. B-Side is tracing these jewels that are prospering out of the limelight. B-Side risks a second look and does not refrain from placing the needle on the grooves that have gone unnoticed.
This non-commercial festival deals with all varieties of modern visual arts, explores media intersections and opens up new perspectives, a different way to look at new trends and developments. Video art, computer art, interactive projection and light design are the cornerstones of this event, discussions, lectures and workshops will complete the offering.
Additionally, the second AVIT VJ conference in the South of Germany will be held. VisualBerlin is proud to support the next edition of B-Seite festival in Mannheim.

A night with Celeste

| 1.10.2009

(a personal report by Kiritan Flux, photos by Ilan Katin)

Just having a faint idea that there was supposed to be something going on this saturday friday evening i checked the outsourced part of my permanently damaged brain memory. the digital cloud reminded me of the Celeste prize final party event and I suddenly got really excited about going there. Looking at the menubar clock I realized I had only half an hour of time before it would start, so I threw a post about it into the VB feed, dropped all my other ongoing procrastination tasks, grabbed my photo camera and left.

Sipping a nice cold bottle of czech beer I walked to the gigantic industrial compound of the old AEG factory in Wedding, scanning the dark area for hints about Celeste. I strayed around the red brick and rusty metal complex, totally lost – until a naturally wary, androgynous, and faceless security guard popped up from the shadows wanting to know my intentions. I explained myself and the guard dutifully pointed me into the right direction. On the way, I realized I forgot to bring the CF card for my camera at my office…
