Licht An!
Berlin’s original Videokunst Club, VisualBerlin reflects the richness of the city itself. With members from nine countries we are a diverse family bound together by a shared commitment to the progression of audiovisual art forms, performance and technology. Our artists have rocked festivals and parties across the globe and in 2010 it’s our turn to return the favor. From June 10-12 we will host the VisualBerlin Festival, a community driven event focusing on live performance, VJing and experimental media. The festival is an excellent opportunity to connect with an engaged audience of public and peers. Share with us your passion, your creativity, your experiments and your fun. Wir freuen uns!
Background
Founded in 2005, VisualBerlin is a non-profit community platform, providing support and a social structure for participating artists. Our interests and expertise covers everything from underground party visuals to hardware-hacking, programmatic arts, experimental performance and media philosophy. Community is at the forefront of everything we do. Since 2003 members of our group have hosted events in collaboration with AViT, the international support network for VJ arts and practitioners. In 2006 the newly-formed VisualBerlin celebrated it’s first official AViT network event and in 2010 we are pleased to continue the tradition of AViT in Berlin with the VisualBerlin Festival. The common ideals of VisualBerlin and AViT ensures that the participating artists and surrounding community is the most important aspect of each of our events.
Location
In 2010 the Festival once again takes place in conjunction with Berlin’s international design festival DMY. Over three days, guest VJs, performers and developers will have the opportunity to present their work in Berlin’s most unique locations. These headquarters will act as a hub and meeting point for all artists with free wifi, event information, technical support and a daily breakfast club for participants.
The night program takes place in external clubs, transformed by the VisualBerlin team to offer you the best setting for your performance.
Program
The festival will be a mix of curated programming and open-exchange. Innovative projects and developments will be presented daily across a schedule of workshops, performances and discussions. Additional jam sessions will take place in the lounge area giving you the opportunity to test out new collaborations, experiment and exchange ideas on the big screen.
The night program is split into three events:
Night 1, Dubstep party
Night 2, Chiptunes + AudioVisual Performances
Night 3, Classic VJ/ Closing Party.
The night slots will be curated but we welcome last-minute collaborations between artists, and look forward to closing each night with you in an open jam session
How To Participate
We will be collecting submissions for the following:
- Workshops/Seminars
- VJ sets
- AudioVisual Performances
We are also planning facade mappings, so please let us know if your work is appropriate for these and you would like to stay informed.

11.2. - Zan Lyons // Transducers pt.2
Kiritan Flux | 8.02.2010February 11, 2010 - Tresor Berlin
ZAN LYONS’ Berlin Film Festival show. Zan will be performing a new A/V plus strings show and screening his Blade Runner Remix. Followed at midnight (12pm) by ALEC EMPIRE, Patrick Pulsinger and Reznik presenting Transducers Pt. 2 – a dynamite Thursday in Tresor!
Since Zan Lyons released “Desolate” in 2000, his reputation as a musician (violin, viola and cello) and electronic composer has blossomed. The London maverick combines an explosive audiovisual show with a live music performance that simply intoxicates. Heralded by the international press, tonight he will screen his own score for the celebrated, groundbreaking film “Blade Runner” and sharing his amazing work that breathes the dedication he affords his creations..
Tresor Globus Floor midnight-12pm:
Last February Alec Empire treated us to a special appearance to present Transducers, and tonight he is back to give it up with Part 2. With his latest EP “1000 Eyes” from his film “The Golden Foretaste of Heaven“, Alec Empire hasn’t stopped to enjoy the critical success of last year’s full-length album “Shivers“. A sonic terrorist with a mission, Alec Empire is a chameleon in his art, creating his own musical genre and the result is mesmerizing. With support from techno legend Patrick Pulsinger who intelligently weaves stabs of electro, minimal and jazz into passionate, experimental electronica; and steered way into metal-techno territories by Reznik – you haven’t had an evening of such eclectic music in years and yeah, it’s up with that.

7.1. - Visual Voltage Amplified
Kiritan Flux | 5.01.2010
Nils Edvardsson – The Spirit of High Voltage
Audiovisual performance at the opening of Visual Voltage Amplified
January 7, 2010, 7pm-00.00am, Felleshus Berlin
On the opening evening of Visual Voltage Amplified, Swedish artist Nils Edvardsson will turn the Swedish power infrastructure into a gigantic musical instrument. He has travelled to different points of interest around the Swedish power line system and recorded the sound of the electricity and the lines near hydroelectric and nuclear power plants.
With special designed microphones, attached directly on the pylons, he has recorded not only the humming and buzzing sound of the electricity, but also mixed it with the wind that strikes the lines as a harp, and the sounds from birds and other background noises from the nature. The result is a very dynamic soundtrack that combines two great forces, the electricity and the nature, to perform a full symphony. A combination that has so far attracted nearly 100000 visitors on a version that Edvardsson put up on YouTube a couple of years ago.
At the opening of Visual Voltage Amplified, Edvardsson will use his sound recordings, together with images he shot of the recording spots, for an audiovisual performance. Certainly a unique take on the energy question, and a transformation of voltage into something visible. Don’t miss it!!!
