“The same procedure as every year…” the trip to the Live Performers Meeting in Rome staarts with chaos…

…after Ryan Air had cancelled our flight tickets for some strange reason, a meeting was scheduled at Café Gorki Park to discuss further proceedings. A few cigarettes, debates, calculations and desperate phone-calls later the decision was made to turn the LPM visit into a transcontinental road trip…On the next day, all of us met to buy the last essential gadgets for the planned visual narrative performance and struggled with our tape-munching camcorder, peripheral work deadlines and frustrations. Eventually, we managed to shoot some scenes and while fRED spent a lot of time capturing, compositing and editing clips afterwards, Bram and Flux returned to the desks to finish due freelance work.

Wednesday afternoon, fRED and Flux finished filming some more clips and crammed the Audi A4 with loads of cables, computers and the usual nerdcore visualists equipment. Bram was picked up and we started our trip towards West-Berlin, searching for some more environments to capture final Berlin shots for our live-set.

The Autobahn was hit around 6pm and the cruise-controlled Audi rolled south. Although the roads were fairly clear, several construction sites and a lot of trucks slowed us down a bit, and six hours later, we finally arrived at Flux’s parents home in Heidelberg to chill in front of the TV, fill our stomaches and take a few hours of sleep.

The next morning started with a few more chaotic issues. Flux didn’t hear his alarm clock, and we got up an hour later than planned. The shower was freezing cold, but refreshing (the heater didn’t work for some reason) and within only a few minutes, we found ourselves back in the car. The morning sun was enjoyed (and filmed) on the garden terrace of the famous Heidelberg castle, but soon, our hunger and caffeine addiction forced us to continue to find a bakery and a supermarket to hunt some breakfast and nurture to survive the upcoming passing of the Alps. Our primary survival needs got satisfied very soon and we brought our weels back on the freeway.

The ride to and through Switzerland was calm and quick and the huge mountains and crystal clear lakes around us very imressive. After we slipped through the pinhole of the Gotthard tunnel, holiday feelings came up because it got warmer and the first palm and pine trees appeared as we approached the Italian border. fRED safely drove us to the beautiful refuge villa of his aunt and uncle in the idyllic mountainsite where we were heartly welcomed and even spoilt with pasta, coffee, cake and fresh grapes that grew above our heads on the terrace. It was hard, having to leave the beautiful place again, but two hours later we returned to the messy car seats to start the final stage of the roadtrip.

The last hours went by very quickly – the Audi dove through the night, through a lot of construction sites, where workers crossed the road like scared deer in the headlights, maniac drivers passed by with insane speeds, and glowing bright pimped up trucks ruled the highway all the way down to Roma. We fortunately found the right exit in Rome and arrived rightaway at the Linux Club. The expected chaos surrounded us when we walked in, recognizing known faces and totally flashed by the loudness and bright video flickering. We were still in the driving mood and not quite used to the sudden party atmosphere, so we waited outside the club for Valeria and her friends who had organized a sleeping place for us…

[lang_en]LA-based electronic musician, multimedia artist and mad scientist collector Steve Nalepa combines deep dub bass, glitchy breaks, bioacoustic atmospheres and beautiful sinewave melodies to create his patented brand of ambient glitch dub. Nalepa has performed at The Do Lab Stage at Coachella 2007, produced tracks with legends such as Bill Laswell and Pharoah Sanders, and shared a bill with Amon Tobin, Cut Chemist and DJ Spooky.

Todd, aka. VJ Synesthete from LA, comes from a post-production and documentary film making background. He spent a number of years working for Technicolor Creative Services and on documentary projects around the world. The growth of the American Rave Scene in the early nineties motivated Todd to expand his artistic repertoire by fusing video with music live in a club setting. Todd continues to bring cinematic influences to his work as a live performer. Todd draws from a wide range of cult cinema and motion graphics material to composite his live performances into a unique brew for consumption by a thirsty public parched by the desert of traditional media experiences.[/lang_en]

[lang_en]=ff= is a joint venture of the video artists fRED and Kiritan Flux from Berlin. Both share a cranky affinity towards pixilated and pixelated substance and appearance. They are permanently working on the communication between the visual artist and the obsever. The =ff= method to achieve this is presenting an exaggerated self glorification withing the narrative content of the shown short-films on screen and on stage at the same time. =ff= equip themselves with odd costumes, film each other and spontaneously interweave fictional actions and short narratives into their gonzo style perception of the local surrounding.[/lang_en]

Erst in unmittelbarer Umgebung der geplanten Vorführung rüsten sie sich mit skurriler Kostümierung aus, filmen sich selbst in der ihnen meist fremden Umgebung und verweben spontan am Drehort ausgedachte fiktive Handlungen und Kurzgeschichten.[/lang_de]

[lang_en]The K:ITA started on the first of June 2007 as a temporarily (and through this enduring) crossmedial art-project in Berlin at Bersarinplatz in Friedrichshain. A creative oasis with a garden and art-studios right in the heart of Berlin. 22 artists and groups from the Netherlands, France, USA, Italy, England, Australia, Germany… etc. join the “kitty” and work together for one year. In the former DDR – Kindergarden many different arts are collaborating: sound, video, lightdesign, fine arts, music, painting, sculpture, fashion, webdesign, performance, printing, dance, New Network Technology, photography. Most of the artists of the group already worked together in former exhibitions and events.[/lang_en]

Neben der Aufgabe, Gastkünstler des DMY videotechnisch zu unterstützen, zeigte VisualBerlin eigene Showcases im Rahmen des Couch VJ Programms und präsentierte Installationen, wie den Video-Würfel oder ein umfassendes Überwachungs-Kamera-Setup.[/lang_de][lang_en]VisualBerlin’s DJs, VJs and audiovisual performers presented a five-day-programme between music and visual design. Besides the task to support guest artists with video equipment and service, VisualBerlin presented their own showcases within the Couch VJ setup and showed video installations, like the video cube and a CCTV surveillance system.[/lang_en]

Enjoy an evening of 21st century cafe culture at this audio visual arts event hosted by local collective Kino-Kult. Downstairs in the performance zone live sets by local audio visual artists and laptop musicians. In the ambient zone Southampton’ s “Skecthbook” host an evening of live visuals, electronica and queasy listening. While upstairs features live art and video installation works by guest artists.

We have performance spots for VJs and video artists, laptop/electronic musicians. [lang_de]Der legendäre amerikanische “Gonzo”-Journalist Hunter S. Thompson und sein Leben und Werk werden anhand zweier Filme vorgestellt und umrissen. Bekannt wurde die Figur Thompson vor allem durch den 1998 erschienenen Film “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” von Terry Gilliam, wo er von Johnny Depp gespielt wurde. An diesem Abend werden ein kurzer Dokumentarfilm über HST gezeigt, sowie “Where the Buffalo Roam” von 1980, in dem Bill Murray in seiner allerersten Rolle HST genial und authentisch spielt.

Thompson schuf den Gonzo-Journalismus, einen Schreibstil, für den aus seiner Sicht das Talent eines “wahrlich großen Journalisten, das Auge eines Künstlers und Photographen und die Eier eines Schauspielers” fusionieren mussten. Es sollen sich reale Erlebnisse, soziale und politische Analysen mit fiktiven Geschehnissen, Polemik und Drogenvisionen mischen. [/lang_de]

[lang_de] Gestern Abend hatten wir das Vergnügen unser neuestes Mitglied live und in Farbe kennenzulernen. Vor einigen Wochen aus Australien nach Berlin gezogen ist sie auf alle Fälle eine Bereicherung für die visuelle Szene in Berlin. Eine gute Mischung aus Typo, grafischen Texturen und Figuren, teilweise selber gedreht teilweise aus public domain, mit viel mühe in after effects verfeinert, durften wir gestern schon in einem kleinen Screening bewundern, ich bin aber gespannt wie ein Flitzebogen auf die erste Live Performance.

Moved from Australia to Berlin couple of weeks ago she is definatly an enrichment for the Berlin visualist scene. A good mixture of type, grafical textures and figures, partially self-shot partially public domain, refined in after effects, we had the pleasure to see in a small screening, but i’m curious to see it live.

Nur eine Einladung zum gemeinsamen visuellen Entertainment mit den Kollegen Devon Miles, Jorgk und Kiritan Flux konnte ich nicht ausschlagen. Außer dem ist das Konzept weniger auf Elfmeterschießen nach Verlängerung ausgelegt, vielmehr geht es darum im ehrgeizgen Wechsel die Grenzen mal wieder ein bisschen nach oben zu verschieben. Also its PingPong time am 15.9. ab sagen wir mal 23 Uhr in Jorgks Residenz, dem Spindler und Klatt an der Köpenicker Straße.[/lang_de]

[lang_en] I’m not the biggest fan of battlesituations, but an invitation to do visual entertainment with the visualists Devon Miles, Jorgk and Kiritan Flux i had to accept. Anyway the concept is less “penalties-after-extratime”, but more pushing the borders side by side.
