LPM 003 – viva la felicita

| 26.09.2007

Day 3 was chaotic again – as expected. We woke up too late, injected some dual core espressi, and fought our way through the friday high noon traffic mayhem all the way to the St. Peter’s Dome. Finding a place to park was almost impossible and took us almost half an hour. Finally we were there, on the big plaza, shooting some clips, getting nods and smiles from chinese tourists and confused looks from others who saw us in our costumes.

IMG_3515.JPG

We returned to the basement as soon as possible to tune into the final phase of cutting, editing and preparing for our set. This took a long time and our camera seemed to be fucked up at last – it decided spontaneously whether to spit out or just eat the dv tape – we had lost control. Eventually all material got digitized and we started to get a bit releived when Bram returned from a short walk around the block to buy coffee and mumbled something about our car not being where we parked it. fRED and Bram went back to the place and indeed – the Audi was gone!!!

Panically we talked with Michael, our kind host, who phoned the police and fRED, Bram and him went to the police station to find out that the beloved automobile had been taken to the deposit because of parking in a prohibited area (which is funny because there were so many other cars in that street which didn’t get pulled off) – so two hours later and 120 EUR lighter the car was back in our property, but we lost hours of preparation time and hundreds of nerves…

We drove to the Linux Club rightaway, dressed up and ready to rock, but we still had a few hours to wait until we would spit out our flickering mayhem, so we spent the next hours socializing and watching the showcases and workshops.

DSC01187.JPG

There were quite a few interesting talks: about the node based open source media programming environment Pure Data, which seemed to have developped a lot within the last years and comes closer and closer to the power of Max/Jitter. The French crew talked about vjfrance.com and the Italian base presented ‘vjing tube’ – a fancy web 2.0 portal for VJs to share and discuss their videos. There were many audiovisual showcases which we liked, but whose artist names we totally forgot – and some other arty farty noise performances that bored us a bit. artificialeyes.tv rocked the house with their VMS projectors and their decadent pile of macbook pros.

DSC01193.JPG

Late at night, paki, who was responsible for the schedule of the festival, was already trapped in fear and loathing because he had to cram dozens of artists into the final hours of the night. We had been waiting for so long to show our prepared live set and didn’t want to leave Roma without having shown a single frame. He told us that our set would be “after 3″ and we decided to take a walk down via Ostiense to get our obligatory caffeine dose. There, we sat in a small bar, together with Soni Riot and some other known faces, enjoyed our caffé, listened to Village People and got into a better mood.

IMG_3527.JPGIMG_3521.JPG

Some time around 4am we finally went on stage, really nervous and with a handful of vodkas in our brains, and shot our set out onto the beamers, blinded by flashes, confused by the chaotic “technical support” – our set had turned out to become an audiovisual set together with Bram – and after almost an hour shwich felt like 10 minutes, the mayhem was over and we packed our stuff and emptied the vodka bottle quickly. Outside we smoked and tried to remember how the gig went – it had been a big chaos with lots of difficulties and we were both happy and really pissed off at the same time – confusion!

Later that night we enjoyed the live set of Soni Riot and chatted with artificialeyes, the “pirate”, Dr. Nojoke and some other drunk veejays until the sun had risen. Bram and fRED wanted to drive to Berlin rightaway but after Flux had laughed and looked at them in agony – the plan was cancelled and we drove back to our accomodation location to fall into a short, noisy and dreamless sleep.

DSC01201.JPG

On the next day, we packed everything up and started our long trip back home at noon. Amazingly, 15 minutes later we were already on the highway – and on the first gas station, we poured fresh orange juice and caffé into our heads and headed up north. We took Olli with us, the audio-part of Soni Riot and after eleven hours of schmoove cruising through Italy and Austria, we finally arrived at Bergen, Bavaria, where Olli invited us to a nice italian restaurant where we had huge pizzas (we had zero pizzas in itally – funny eh?). fRED, who had been sleeping almost the whole day, drove the final lap up to Berlin and around 6am we arrived in Berlin to fall into our beds…

LPM 002 – Linuxclub

| 21.09.2007

lpm_002_2.jpg

So after a not to long night and some little surprises regarding underground and water temprature, we spend the afternoon in our great studio somewhere in rome. its still a lot of stuff to do for our performance on saturday.
But we are not only here to sit behind our machines, so we took our car and made a rush-hour trip to linux-club, its amazing and we hope that we remember the way back.

lpm_002_3.jpg

Now we are in here to socialize a little. the athmosphere is nice and relaxed, inside the first performances take place and i’m looking forward to see some really nice stuff. at the moment our friends from avit visionaire paris are talking about all the projects they did the last year and i have to say every performer should keep an eye on their stuff.
After a little talk about avit worldwide network we did afterwards, with gianluca from lpm and thodd from artificialeyes, covering avit.info issues, plans and dreams (avit is alive!), we now see a really amazing av-performance. to girls and a guy put a lot of gear on the stage and perform in a really synaesthetic way. mostefprod is their name, if you got the chance to see them, take it.

lpm_002_4.jpg

quite esotheric in a way, but a really nice ambient connection between sound and visual impression.
So far for now i will enjoy the next hours a bit and maybe we get a short video together for you folks.

LPM 001 – Lost Highway

| 20.09.2007

“The same procedure as every year…” the trip to the Live Performers Meeting in Rome staarts with chaos…

…after Ryan Air had cancelled our flight tickets for some strange reason, a meeting was scheduled at Café Gorki Park to discuss further proceedings. A few cigarettes, debates, calculations and desperate phone-calls later the decision was made to turn the LPM visit into a transcontinental road trip…On the next day, all of us met to buy the last essential gadgets for the planned visual narrative performance and struggled with our tape-munching camcorder, peripheral work deadlines and frustrations. Eventually, we managed to shoot some scenes and while fRED spent a lot of time capturing, compositing and editing clips afterwards, Bram and Flux returned to the desks to finish due freelance work.

Wednesday afternoon, fRED and Flux finished filming some more clips and crammed the Audi A4 with loads of cables, computers and the usual nerdcore visualists equipment. Bram was picked up and we started our trip towards West-Berlin, searching for some more environments to capture final Berlin shots for our live-set.

lpm_ride.jpg

The Autobahn was hit around 6pm and the cruise-controlled Audi rolled south. Although the roads were fairly clear, several construction sites and a lot of trucks slowed us down a bit, and six hours later, we finally arrived at Flux’s parents home in Heidelberg to chill in front of the TV, fill our stomaches and take a few hours of sleep.

The next morning started with a few more chaotic issues. Flux didn’t hear his alarm clock, and we got up an hour later than planned. The shower was freezing cold, but refreshing (the heater didn’t work for some reason) and within only a few minutes, we found ourselves back in the car. The morning sun was enjoyed (and filmed) on the garden terrace of the famous Heidelberg castle, but soon, our hunger and caffeine addiction forced us to continue to find a bakery and a supermarket to hunt some breakfast and nurture to survive the upcoming passing of the Alps. Our primary survival needs got satisfied very soon and we brought our weels back on the freeway.

lpm_swyz.jpg

The ride to and through Switzerland was calm and quick and the huge mountains and crystal clear lakes around us very imressive. After we slipped through the pinhole of the Gotthard tunnel, holiday feelings came up because it got warmer and the first palm and pine trees appeared as we approached the Italian border. fRED safely drove us to the beautiful refuge villa of his aunt and uncle in the idyllic mountainsite where we were heartly welcomed and even spoilt with pasta, coffee, cake and fresh grapes that grew above our heads on the terrace. It was hard, having to leave the beautiful place again, but two hours later we returned to the messy car seats to start the final stage of the roadtrip.

lpm_varese.jpg

The last hours went by very quickly – the Audi dove through the night, through a lot of construction sites, where workers crossed the road like scared deer in the headlights, maniac drivers passed by with insane speeds, and glowing bright pimped up trucks ruled the highway all the way down to Roma. We fortunately found the right exit in Rome and arrived rightaway at the Linux Club. The expected chaos surrounded us when we walked in, recognizing known faces and totally flashed by the loudness and bright video flickering. We were still in the driving mood and not quite used to the sudden party atmosphere, so we waited outside the club for Valeria and her friends who had organized a sleeping place for us…

[lang_en]=ff= is a joint venture of the video artists fRED and Kiritan Flux from Berlin. Both share a cranky affinity towards pixilated and pixelated substance and appearance. They are permanently working on the communication between the visual artist and the obsever. The =ff= method to achieve this is presenting an exaggerated self glorification withing the narrative content of the shown short-films on screen and on stage at the same time. =ff= equip themselves with odd costumes, film each other and spontaneously interweave fictional actions and short narratives into their gonzo style perception of the local surrounding.[/lang_en]

[lang_de]=ff= [eff-eff], [da-bl eff] – Visuelle Darstellergruppe.
